Feel the Beat Team Member Spotlight: Corbin Hall
Team MemberSpotlight features Feel the Beat instructor, Corbin Hall.
Corbin started dancing when she was five and quickly fell in love with hip hop. She actually didn't take dance again though till 4th grade where she started taking dance classes in multiple genres. Corbin started teaching dance as a sophomore in high school and has been teaching hip hop ever since. Breakdancing is her favorite thing to learn as well as teach. Corbin’s favorite break dancing move is called baby swipes. She also loves to improv with hip hop especially, when her students have dance battles.
Tell us about your role at Feel the Beat. How long have you been at Feel the Beat and what drew you to the organization?
I started at feel the beat September of 2024. I have been working with and surrounded by individuals with disabilities/ disability culture my whole life. I love being able to help provide opportunities for this population. especially, such an amazing creative movement opportunity as this. I want to work with this population as a physical therapist someday to provide the same kind of open, safe, and creative environment where individuals can receive quality equitable care.
What is your personal mission statement and what about that mission statement resonates with you most?
My goal is to provide everyone with the same opportunity (equality in opportunity) and individuals help and care to push individuals to grow to their best selves (equity in care and treatment).
Is there a person in your life you credit as being a key to what motivates or inspires you on a daily basis? How have they impacted your life both personally and professionally?
My mother, Beth Hall, is my biggest inspiration. She has been a special education teacher for severe needs students for almost 30 years now. She brought me into the world of disability culture and inspired me to want to work with this population in my future career. She always works so hard to ensure that her students have the best opportunities to learn creatively and to be heard in the world. I have never seen anyone else advocate so much for individuals with disabilities. She has taught me to look for how to improve accessibility in so many different areas of life. Whenever I have a students that I am not sure how to go about modifying something or understanding a certain behavior she has been excellent at giving advice of how to approach the situation.
Tell us about a recent experience you’ve had in your role at Feel the Beat – something funny, inspiring, challenging, etc.
I wanted to make an obstacle course for one of my private classes to try and work on dynamic balance, but had not prepared for a new student in a electric wheelchair. I was able to create a racing obstacle course with two lanes. One lane to challenge one students dynamic balance and the other lane for challenging motor control and coordination in a wheelchair. Both students got to do the obstacle course but in a way that challenged them while working to their strengths. Both students had a great time and engaged with the activity for far longer than I had thought.
Outside of dancing at Feel the Beat, what do you like to do for fun?
I can be found hiking in the mountains with my mom and my dog (working on taking my cat with me too), doing various arts and crafts, reading a fiction book, crocheting, and regularly strength training.
