Just the beat, the movement, and a space where everyone belongs.
Dance without barriers - right in your neighborhood
New York City is one of the most vibrant, diverse communities in the world — and every New Yorker deserves access to the joy of music and dance, regardless of ability or hearing status.
Feel the Beat is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dance studio founded in 2016 with one mission: to make the experience of music possible for those who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and disabled. In New York, we bring that mission directly to you.
Our NYC programming is led by Mary Jo Lasky, an experienced adaptive dance instructor who works with students of all ages and abilities across the five boroughs. Classes weave together spoken English and American Sign Language, and every session is designed so that Deaf, Hard of Hearing, hearing, and disabled students learn and move together — as one.

Ready to bring Feel the Beat to your organization?
The Technology Behind the Beat
At our Denver metro studios, our bone-conductive floors deliver music through vibration — allowing Deaf and Hard of Hearing students to feel rhythm with their whole body. Rhythm gives the brain a pattern to lock onto, and once it locks in, the body can move with more confidence.
In New York, our on-location classes use body tapping and portable rhythm techniques to bring that same principle to any space — helping dancers practice syncing their bodies to the beat, with or without our signature floor.
We're actively working to bring vibrotactile floor technology to New York. Read on to find out how your organization can be part of that.
Help us Bring the Floor to New York
We're looking for right-fit organizations to partner with.
The heart of the Feel the Beat experience is our vibrotactile floor — a bone-conductive system that delivers the physical dimension of sound through vibration, transforming how Deaf and Hard of Hearing students experience music and dance.
We're actively seeking partner organizations in New York City who share our commitment to accessibility and inclusion — and who want to be part of something genuinely new.
What a floor partnership looks like:
We work with you to install our vibrotactile flooring in your space, creating a permanent, accessible dance environment for your community. In return, Feel the Beat brings our adaptive dance programming, curriculum, and instructors to your location — serving your students, members, or community at large.
We bring: Our floor technology, adaptive curriculum, trained instructors, and a proven model for inclusive dance education built over ten years and hundreds of students.
You bring: A permanent space, a community that needs this, and a shared belief that music belongs to everyone.
Let's Build Something Together
Partnering with Feel the Beat means more than hosting a class. It means becoming part of a growing network of organizations making music and movement truly accessible — and leaving a lasting, physical mark on your community.
We're in active conversations with organizations across New York City. If you think your organization could be the right fit, we want to hear from you.

“Feel the Beat creates a safe space for students where they can express themselves through dance. My jaw dropped at the skill and ability my students exhibited as soon as dance and music are made accessible to them. I now have students asking me on a frequent basis “When can we do Feel the Beat again?!”
“Amazing people with passion and big hearts!! This has changed my nieces life, she’s so outgoing and confident now !! Love this place!!!”
