We believe everyone deserves access — including access to us.

Accessibility statement

At Feel the Beat, accessibility isn't a policy. It's who we are.

Our mission is to make the experience of music possible for those who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and disabled — and that commitment extends to every corner of our work, including this website. We want feelthebeat.dance to be a welcoming, usable experience for every visitor, regardless of how they access it.

This page outlines what we've done, what we're still working on, and how to reach us if something isn't working for you.

Our commitment to web accessibility

We are actively working to ensure that feelthebeat.dance meets or exceeds the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA — the recognized international standard for web accessibility.

That means we aim to make this site:

Perceivable — Information and content can be seen, heard, or understood regardless of sensory ability. This includes captions on all video content, descriptive alt text on images, and sufficient color contrast throughout.

Operable — Every part of the site can be navigated using a keyboard alone, and nothing requires fast or precise physical interaction.

Understandable — Content is written in plain, clear language. Navigation behaves consistently and predictably.

Robust — The site is built to work reliably with assistive technologies including screen readers, voice navigation, and magnification tools.

What we've put in place

We have taken the following steps to make feelthebeat.dance more accessible:

  • Closed captions on all video content published on this site

  • Descriptive alt text on images throughout the site

  • Keyboard-navigable menus and interactive elements

  • Consistent heading structure to support screen reader navigation

  • Color contrast reviewed against WCAG AA standards

  • Person-first, plain-language copy throughout

Known Limitations

We are committed to continuous improvement, and we want to be honest about where we are today. The following limitations are known and actively being addressed:

  • Some older PDF documents linked from this site may not be fully accessible to screen readers. We are working to replace or remediate these files.

If you encounter a barrier not listed here, please tell us — your feedback is how we find and fix what we've missed.

We want to hear from you

If you experience any difficulty accessing content on feelthebeat.dance, or if you have suggestions for how we can do better, please reach out. We take every accessibility concern seriously and will respond as quickly as we can.

When you contact us, it helps to include:

  • The page or feature you were trying to access

  • The assistive technology or browser you were using

  • A description of the barrier you encountered

We aim to respond to all accessibility inquiries within 4-6 business days.

Third-party tools and content

Some content on this site is provided by third-party platforms — including video hosting, social media embeds, and registration tools. While we choose partners with accessibility in mind, we cannot guarantee that all third-party content meets WCAG standards. If a third-party tool is creating a barrier for you, please contact us and we will do our best to provide the information or service through an alternative method.

This is ongoing work

Accessibility is not a box to check — it's a practice. We review and update this statement as our site evolves, and we welcome feedback at any time.

Feel the Beat is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to making music and dance accessible for Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and disabled communities. Accessibility on this website is one expression of that same commitment.
