10 Years of Feel the Beat

A Decade of Inclusive Dance, Community, and Connection

For ten years, Feel the Beat has created a space where music is not just heard—but felt.
Where movement becomes connection, and dance becomes a language everyone can experience.

Together, we’ve built a community where those who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and those with or without disabilities can feel the joy of music, express themselves freely, and belong.

Join us as we celebrate this monumental milestone of making music accessible to all.

Celebrate 10 Years With Us

Ten Years of Music Felt, Not Just Heard

For ten years, Feel the Beat has been built by a community that believes music should be accessible to everyone.

What started as a simple idea has grown into something much larger—creating spaces where those who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and those with or without disabilities can connect through movement, expression, and shared experience.

Where We Started

Feel the Beat began with a simple observation: when music and movement were made accessible, students engaged in entirely new ways.

In 2016, founders Jari and Julia met while teaching in a multiple needs classroom. They saw firsthand how students who were often excluded came to life when given the opportunity to experience music through movement.

Recognizing the lack of inclusive programs, they set out to create something different—working alongside engineers to develop a new way for students to feel sound, not just hear it.

What started as a small idea has grown into a movement, reaching more than 4,000 students yearly across Colorado and beyond—and still growing toward a much larger vision.

Music You Can Feel

At Feel the Beat, accessibility is not an add-on—it’s where everything begins.

We developed a fully accessible vibrotactile dance floor that uses bone-conduction technology to translate sound into vibration. Instead of relying only on hearing, dancers experience music through their bodies—feeling rhythm, timing, and energy through touch.

As sound travels through the floor, it moves through the body and into the inner ear via bone conduction, allowing individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing to experience the physical dimension of sound in a completely new way.

Paired with ASL-supported instruction and adaptable teaching methods, this creates an environment where those who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and those with or without disabilities can engage in movement in a way that works for them.

Ten Years, One Beat at a Time

Over the past decade, Feel the Beat has grown from a single idea into a movement. From early classes to new locations, from small groups to a growing community, each step has been shaped by the people who show up, move together, and believe in a more inclusive world.

This is not just a timeline—it’s a reflection of moments, milestones, and the community that made them possible.
